This move is about giving the Blue Jays a fresh arm in their bullpen after Alek Manoah was only able to clear through four innings in the first game of Toronto’s four-game set with the New York Yankees on Monday. Nate Pearson, Tim Mayza, Jackson, and Yimi Garcia pitched five innings in relief of Manoah.

Hatch has pitched 22 innings for the Bisons this season and has an ERA of 4.91 with 28 strikeouts and 12 walks surrendered. He last pitched on May 12 and tossed two clean innings as the opener before Mitch White came into the game and allowed four earned runs over three innings of work.

The Blue Jays originally acquired Hatch back in 2019 from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for reliever David Phelps. Hatch pitched well in his debut in 2020, posting a 2.73 ERA over 26 1/3 innings, but he hasn’t been able to have the same success since. Between 2021 and 2022, Hatch tossed 14 innings for the Blue Jays and allowed 17 earned runs.
